NEW BUSINESS
1.     LOAN ORDER, appropriating $5,509,000.00 for the purpose of making critically-needed repairs to City-owned buildings including, but not limited to, projects for the repair and renovations of public safety facilities, recreational facilities and general office space.
2.     LOAN ORDER, appropriating $18,128,896.00 for accelerated repair projects at Carney Academy, Hayden McFadden Elementary School, Casimir Pulaski Elementary School and Alfred J. Gomes Elementary School; and further, amending the Order passed January 08, 2015 and amended July 16, 2015 to provide that the $1,000,000.00 portion of such Order allocable to school projects shall be allocated to such accelerated repair projects.

3.     LOAN ORDER, appropriating $520,000.00 to pay the costs of improving Hazelwood Park for recreational purposes including new pedestrian entrances and walkways, enhanced lighting, benches, tables and other amenities and all other costs incidental and related thereto (the “Project”) for which project the City has been awarded a grant from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the amount of $24,500 for design costs and $339,500 for construction costs.

4.     WRITTEN MOTION, Councillor Lopes, requesting that the Committee on Ordinances draft an Open Consumption Ordinance that would make it illegal to smoke, roll or ingest marijuana in public. (To be Referred to the Committee on Ordinances.)

5.         WRITTEN MOTION, Councillors Lopes, Abreu, Winterson, Rebeiro and Carney, requesting that Mayor Mitchell, CFO Sky and Health Director Weis, establish an Enterprise account within the Board of Health to allow for the collection of all fines associated with the enforcement of the proposed Synthetic Drug Regulation.  (To be Referred to Mayor Mitchell, CFO Sky and Health Director Weis.)

6.     WRITTEN MOTION, Councillor Rebeiro, requesting, on behalf of the United Way of Greater New Bedford, that the following street(s) be CLOSED: WILLIAM STREET, from North Sixth Street to Pleasant Street, ON FRIDAY, MAY 06, 2016, FROM 7:00 A.M. TO 9:00 A.M., for the purpose of the United Way’s 22nd Annual Youth Day of Caring Event on the Main Library’s Steps and Parking for the Student’s Buses.

8.     WRITTEN MOTION, Councillor Winterson, requesting, on behalf of the Humane Coalition for Animals of Greater New Bedford, that the following street(s) be CLOSED: LT. WALTER P. FULLER MEMORIAL PARKWAY, from Rockdale Avenue West to the Monument, ON SUNDAY, MAY 22, 2016, FROM 8:00 A.M. 10.     WRITTEN MOTION, Councillor Rebeiro, requesting, on behalf of AHA! New Bedford and the Earth Day Committee, that the following street(s) be CLOSED: MARKET STREET, from Pleasant Street to North Sixth Street, FROM 3:00 P.M. TO 7:00 P.M., AND PURCHASE STREET, from Spring Street to Union Street, FROM 7:00 P.M. TO 9:00 P.M., ON THURSDAY, APRIL 14, 2016, for the purpose of the Earth Eve Parade.

11.     WRITTEN MOTION, Councillor Lopes and Council President Morad, requesting that the Committee on City Property review the Purchase & Sales Agreement for the Civil Defense Building on County Street. (To be Referred to the Committee on City Property.) 

12.     WRITTEN MOTION, Councillor Winterson, requesting, that the City of New Bedford consider establishing a “SAFE ZONE” located at Police Station 3, parking lot, 781 Ashley Boulevard, to enable users of Craigslist and other online classified services to complete their transactions in a secure environment.
13.       WRITTEN MOTION, Councilors Abreu, Gomes and Council President Morad, requesting, that the New Bedford City Council write a letter to Dairy Queen’s Vice President Jim Kerr, asking that he consider opening one of their new proposed expansion locations here in New Bedford, the company, owned by Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway Inc., plans on adding 60 new franchises to its repertoire of 33 in Massachusetts over the next five years, as part of a national expansion effort; and further that the City Council assist the New Bedford Economic Development Council and the Dairy Queen Corporate Offices with the site selection process to help find a suitable location which would provide a significant value to both the Company and Community.
