NEW BUSINESS

4.     AN ORDINANCE, amending Chapter 9 of the City Code, Relative to Body Art Establishments regarding screening requirements. (Passed to a Second Reading – April 14, 2016.)

5.     AN ORDINANCE, rezoning Plot 18, Lot 106  from Industrial B to MIXED USE BUSINESS, located at 458 Dartmouth Street. (Passed to a Second Reading – April 14, 2016.)

6.     AN ORDINANCE, amending Chapter 2 of the City Code, Relative to Flags & Flagpoles on City Property. (Passed to a Second Reading – April 14, 2016.)

7.     WRITTEN MOTION, Councillors Carney, Abreu, Gomes, Winterson, Coelho, Bousquet, Rebeiro and Oliveira, requesting, that the City Council send a letter to Governor Baker, along with our State and Federal Delegations in opposition of our boat owners paying $700.00 a day for the at-sea fishing monitor, which was previously paid by NOAA, said new fee was put into place on March 01, 2016, by the United States Department of Commerce, this will have a devastating effect on New Bedford’s fishing industry, which is a major part of the economy in New Bedford and all of New England.

8.         WRITTEN MOTION, Councillors Lopes, Martins, Council President Morad, Councillors Oliveira and Winterson, requesting that James L. O'Brien, Superintendent of Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School, appear before the Committee on Appointments and Briefings to update the Council on the independent study's findings of school climate conducted by Brown University during the 2015-16 school year. (To be Referred to the Committee on Appointments and Briefings.)

13.     WRITTEN MOTION, Councillor Bousquet, requesting, that the following street(s) be CLOSED: WELD STREET, between County Street and  State Street, ON SATURDAY, MAY 28, 2016, FROM 10:00 A.M. TO 1:00 P.M., for the purpose of the ADOPT A BLOCK PROGRAM.

14.       WRITTEN MOTION, Councillors Winterson and Gomes, requesting, that a letter be sent to John E. Nordquist, owner of 64 Brownell Avenue, notifying that the workers in said facility are congregating outside late at night and disturbing the peace, there is an increase of vehicular traffic in a quiet residential neighborhood, cars playing loud music, increase of litter and debris in and around the facility; and further, that this Councillor has received several complaints from area residents, who fear that with the warmer weather the problems will escalate.

15.     WRITTEN MOTION, Councillor Gomes, requesting, that all garden and hardware  stores within the City lines do a voluntary removal of the flower seeds Morning Glory from store shelves and easy access display areas, due to the growing concerns of this seed being used by young people to get high, similar to using LSD; and further, that letters be sent to the surrounding Towns of Dartmouth, Fairhaven, Acushnet and Mattapoisett, asking them to join us in the best interest of our communities, in making sure that no young person uses this seed to get high or possibly affect their health and well-being. 
16.     WRITTEN MOTION, Councillors Gomes and Oliveira, requesting, that the Administration reconsider its decision to take down the wall of former Mayors, located outside of the Ashley room named after former Mayor Charles Ashley, the history and it's intent was for the wall to be located in City Hall, not in some conference room in the south end library; and further, that the City Council go on record in support of putting back the wall of Mayors, to its original location in City Hall.
17.     COMMUNICATION, City Clerk/Clerk of the City Council, to City Council, on behalf of Daniel Xavier, d/b/a MCKENZIE’S BUS CO., 183 Campbell Street, New Bedford, MA 02740 hereby submit a copy of the Application requesting a RENEWAL of a Private Livery License, under the provisions of M.G.L. Chapter 159A, Section 1 and amendments thereto, and M.G.L. Chapter 270, Section 22 (Smoke Free Workplace Law) and all other laws applicable to such operation, to carry passengers for hire over the streets of New Bedford. (Current License expires June 25, 2016.)
