M3.      COMMUNICATION, Mayor Mitchell, to City Council, submitting the APPOINTMENT of DEBORAH MIMOSO, New Bedford, MA, to the COUNCIL ON AGING; Ms. Mimoso will be replacing Ms. Virginia Morrison, whose term has expired; this term will expire in November 2024.

M4.      COMMUNICATION, Mayor Mitchell, to City Council, submitting the APPOINTMENT of MANUEL H. SILVA, New Bedford, MA, to the TRAFFIC COMMISSION; Mr. Silva will be replacing Jacob Gonsalves, whose term has expired; this term will expire in December 2024.

M5.      COMMUNICATION, Mayor Mitchell, to the City Council, submitting the REAPPOINTMENT of REBEKAH A. TOMLINSON, Acushnet, MA 02743 as a CONSTABLE.

4.     REPORT, Committee on Ordinances, recommending that the City Council go on record that all City Employees and School Department Employees be paid not less than the State minimum wage. (To be Referred to the Mayor and School Department.)

5.     WRITTEN MOTION, Councillor Morad, requesting, that the Special Committee on Environmental Affairs meet with City Solicitor Mikaela McDermott and Director of Resilience and Environmental Stewardship Michele Paul, to obtain a full briefing regarding the City’s ongoing legal position and financial exposure resulting from the Mass DEP and EPA contamination site at Bliss Corner. (To be Referred to the Special Committee on Environmental Affairs.)

6.     WRITTEN MOTION, Councillor Morad, requesting that the City Council create an Ad Hoc Committee of five Councillors specifically for the purpose of meeting with City Clerk Dennis Farias and Legislative Counsel David Gerwatowski to review and recommend revision to the City Council Rules of Order (last updated in in July 2003), said revisions from the Ad Hoc Committee will be submitted to the full City Council for adoption and the Ad Hoc Committee will then be dissolved.  

7.     WRITTEN MOTION, Councillor Morad, requesting that the Committee on Finance be Discharged from further consideration of the matter concerning a COMMUNICATION from Mayor Mitchell to the City Council submitting a LOAN ORDER in the amount of $2,450,000 to pay costs of purchasing and equipping a pumper truck and aerial ladder truck for the Fire Department.

04/22/2021       WRITTEN MOTION, Councillor Gomes, Council President Lopes, Councillors Markey and Carney, requesting, that the City Council go on record in opposition and condemnation of the Boston Globe’s article along with the report done by Citizens For Juvenile Justice, titled, “We Are The Prey”; and further, that the New Bedford City Council also go on record in support of the men and women of the New Bedford Police Department as this report was not fairly done, and does not fit the image, the profile and the mission of our law-enforcement in the City, this report condemned our Police Department for racial profiling of minority groups of juveniles; and further, that the department continues to enforce law and order and justice for all Citizens of the City of New Bedford; and further, that Acting Police Chief Paul Oliveira reassure the people of the City that his leadership and New Bedford Police Department will mirror an image and commitment that all Citizens of the City of New Bedford will be treated fairly with no bias, only law and order and protection of all City residents
