1. WRITTEN MOTION, Councillors Abreu and Markey, requesting that representatives of the “House of Hope”, located at 848 Mount Pleasant St., New Bedford, come before the Committee on Public Safety and Neighborhoods to discuss its security plan and overall operating procedures, as residents from the nearby neighborhood have expressed concerns over the alleged behavior and actions by many of the facility's clientele. (To be Referred to the Committee on Public Safety and Neighborhoods, representatives of the House of Hope, Neighborhood Task Force and Police Chief Joseph Cordeiro). (Ref’d 10/25/18)

2. WRITTEN MOTION, Councillor Gomes, requesting that the Committee on Public Safety and Neighborhoods meet with a Representative of the Mayor’s Office, Police Chief Cordeiro, Fire Chief Gomes and Inspectional Services Director Romanowicz for the purpose of discussing an evacuation plan for City Hall employees and every City owned building; and further that this evacuation plan should be structured and practiced through a drill once a year. 3. WRITTEN MOTION, Councillor Lopes, requesting that the Committee on Public Safety and Neighborhoods invite Kristine Arsenault from Mayor Mitchell’s Office, Police Chief Cordeiro, DPI Commissioner Ponte, and Health Director Chaplin to review the homeless encampment removal policy. (Ref’d 3/8/18)

4. WRITTEN MOTION, Councillor Giesta, requesting that the Committee on Public Safety and Neighborhoods invite Police Chief Joseph Cordeiro, Executive Secretary to the Traffic Commission, Scott Downing and the Commissioner of Inspectional Services, Danny Romanowicz to a meeting to discuss the enforcement and effectiveness of the current Ordinance relative to heavy truck parking in residential zones under Chapter 23, Section 23-23 of the City Code. (Ref’d 8/16/18)

5. WRITTEN MOTION, Councillor Gomes, requesting, that the Committee on Public Safety and Neighborhoods meet with Police Chief Cordeiro and a representative from the Mayor’s office to discuss the immediate implementation of Active Threat Resolution training for all Officers, requesting also a list of all specially trained officers within the department, these Officers with the special training and certification can be used to train other Officers within the department; and further, that training immediately go into effect making our department ready for possible active shooter situations, also known as the Active Shooter Response Team; and further, that the Police Department provide the City Council’s Committee on Public Safety and Neighborhoods with a list of schools and City public buildings that have received ALICE Training (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuation, teaching staff what their options are if there is an active threat situation.
